FAQΒΆ
Q: Can I use Maelstrom for X star?
A: It depends! Phase modulation is most useful when the oscillation frequencies exceed 60 Hz, and when the oscillations do not change over the course of the orbit. Most stars that have been used with phase modulation are pulsars, \(\delta\) Scuti stars, and subdwarf B stars.
Q: What SNR should my pulsation be for it to be useful?
A: In general, the pulsation should be clear of any nearby peaks and exceed a SNR of 5. See the Maelstrom paper for a more detailed analysis.
Q: Will this work for ground-based data?
A: No, I have not yet found any cases where Maelstrom has worked on ground-based data. So far, all analyses have used the Kepler or TESS satellites.
